(August 23, 2019) Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, MC, activist, philanthropist, and acclaimed Hip Hop artist Maimouna Youssef a.k.a. Mumu Fresh has a very busy summer and if fans are looking for new music, the wait is over! Today, Mumu Fresh in collaboration with Grammy-Award winning producerDJ Jazzy Jeff’s PLAYLIST Sessions release a single triad (three) that includes the songs “Bitterness,” “Let’s Eat,” and “Chasing Rainbows” for the latest installment of the Chasing Goosebumps series called The Healing. Mumu sings to your heart, yet speaks to your intellect while the words settle in your soul leaving you wanting more. It’s no wonder that her peers like Black Thought, Robert Glasper,Common, and more have all raved about her skills as an MC, singer, and performer.
“Each song is different and gives you a little hip hop, R&B, and funk…this music is not only meant to be heard but to be enjoyed,” states Mumu. “The topics range from the complexities of being a woman (love, relationships, respect) to the social and civil injustices that plague our community. All these things make up who I am and who I represent as a whole.”
Executive produced by DJ Jazzy Jeff, The Healing is an introspective look at who Mumu Fresh is an artist, activist and most of all a woman. Handpicked by DJ Jazzy Jeff, the project features writers, musicians, and producers that include Grammy-Award winning writer-producer Carvin Haggins (Jill Scott, Ledisi, Tamia), Eric Roberson (Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild,) Kenny Dope, Mac Ayres, Muhsinah, Terry Hunterand more, as well as writing from Mumu herself. Over the next two months, three more triads will be released culminating in the full release of this 12-song masterpiece.
Mumu Fresh is currently touring with rapper/actor Common on his “Let Love Tour,” which kicked off August 7th in Toronto and made stops in Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia, DC, among others with the last three stops in Charlotte (tonight), Dallas (8/28), and Kansas City (8/29). Mumu also had an event-filled weekend performing in New Orleans celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the ESSENCE Festival. As a multi-talented artist, Mumu has also shared the stage with countless icons including The Roots, Sting, Lala Hathaway, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Ed Sheeran, D’Angelo, Femi Kuti, Zap Mama, Bruno Mars, Nas, and Dave Chappelle among others. Concert goers can expect nothing but an exciting, fun and powerful performance from the DC native.
In addition, Mumu Fresh will take the stage at BET’s Black Girls Rock! Awards taping on August 25 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, honoring Angela Bassett, Ciara, Regina King, Debra Martin Chase, H.E.R. and Mothers of The Movement. Performers include India.Arie, Erykah Badu, Elle Varner, Ari Lenox, and more. The broadcast premiere airs on September 8 on BET.

The brainchild of award-winning DJ and producer DJ Jazzy Jeff, the PLAYLIST is a coalition of artists who are committed to preserving the integrity of music culture in an ever-changing industry landscape.
