BRIC KEEPS THE HIP-HOP 50 CELEBRATION GOING WITH A BRIC HOUSE BLOCK PARTY ON SUNDAY SEPT 10

WHAT: BRIC House Block Party & Family Day (Sun, Sept. 10 from 12-6pm) is a one-day celebration in commemoration of Hip-Hop 50. BRIC kicked off their newly announced Hip-Hop initiative, BRIC Hip-Hop, during the 50th anniversary weekend and will continue the festivities with a fun-filled family friendly day of good vibes. Dance to DJs and live music, create collaborative artworks, and access Fort Greene/Flatbush information and material from neighborhood cultural and social resources. There will be games, sports activities, a mural installation, creative workshops at BRIC House and more.

Attendees will have a sneak preview of BRIC Hip-Hop – the new, permanent home for Hip-Hop education, expression, and its evolution. The Fall programming will encompass multiple aspects of Hip-Hop culture including visual art, fashion, film, advocacy, and more. BRIC’s Hip-Hop 50 curation underscores their commitment to showcasing and institutionalizing Hip-Hop culture & preserving community connection. They plan to stroll through the genre’s 50 years with an eye toward the margins and the folks who uphold the culture from behind-the-scenes. WHO: BRIC House in collaboration with WMG/BSE Global is honored to celebrate Hip-Hop and curate space for the community. DJ Sets from DJ Quiana Parks and DJ Quinette; special live performances from popular WMG artists Bizzy Banks, Kamauu, and Girll Codee + Breezylyn; Live Intergenerational Community Arts Council (ICAC) Performance and Cypher; a Brooklyn Nets Snap Court provided by BSE Global; a Community Graffiti Wall; Pop-up Record Shops presented by Black Star Records and Legacy Dumbo; panel discussions and a live podcast featuring BRIC President Wes Jackson, NPR’s Rodney Carmichael and Sidney Madden, journalist/writer Kathy Iandoli, culture critic/DJ Kiana Fitzgerald; and more. There will also be live interactive activities including a Hip-Hop Photo Booth, Breakdancing Workshops from the Break-dance originators Rokafella & Kiwikstep, a scavenger hunt, University of Dope Hip-Hop Trivia, plus button making and sewing workshops!
