LA-based jazz pianist and beat maker, Kiefer, released his first record for Stones Throw earlier this year, Happysad. Today he shares the music video for “What A Day” directed by Eric Coleman. Watch here: https://youtu.be/spyMOmC3K20
The video matches the blissed out nature of the song following Kiefer and friends (including label mate Mndsgn) on a laid back drive through LA accented by fun, animated neon sketches. Penny the French bulldog also has a starring role, the same doggo who graced Kiefer’s Happysad album cover. Says Kiefer about the track, “‘What a Day’ is the first of three songs that make up the driving music chapter of the album. It’s about driving through LA on a beautiful day with no prior obligations. No work, no responsibilities, pure joy.”
The 13 track collection of beautiful standalone instrumentals on Happysad showcase both Kiefer’s piano chops and knack for improvisation, winning praise from Consequence, Paste, Bandcamp, the BBC, OkayPlayer, XLR8R, and more. Kiefer has also lent his production talents to the likes of Kaytranada and Anderson .Paak; shared the stage with Moses Sumney; and played often in Terrace Martin and Mndsgn’s live bands.
Last weekend, he kicked off a North American run (the Stones Throw Tour 2018) that will last the rest of the month alongside label mates Jerry Paper, Prophet, and Stimulator Jones (as well as a few select shows with Mndsgn). All confirmed dates below.
